Wear-plate seating and load-transfer shims
Wear plates and bars sit on irregular backing, so steel shims leave point contact that distorts the plate within a single shift.
The need for wear-plate seating and load-transfer shims
BHI Coatings performs wear-plate seating and load-transfer shims across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Backing in a chute, crusher, or liner is rarely flat, and the wear plates and bars have to sit on it anyway. Steel shims underneath touch at a few points, so the plate flexes under impact and the unsupported span distorts. A plate that should ride out a whole campaign can bow inside a single shift, and once it is deformed it channels wear into the structure behind it.
How BHI Coatings does wear-plate seating and load-transfer shims
We pour a cold-cure compound into the gap between the plate and its backing so the plate beds across its full back face. The pour takes up the irregular surface and transfers impact load evenly into the host structure rather than through high points. No machining of the backing and no hot work in the chute or crusher. Our crew preps the steel, sets the plate, and a Belzona 7111-class chocking system seats it flat.
Typically applied with Belzona 7111, matched to the service conditions.
The wear plate seats flat on full-area backing, resists distortion under impact, and lasts its intended campaign, with no cutting or machining of the host structure.
