General metal-loss rebuilding composites

Metal loss from corrosion, erosion or pitting retires equipment once it reaches a code-trigger thickness, and weld build-up adds heat distortion.

The problem

The need for general metal-loss rebuilding composites

BHI Coatings performs general metal-loss rebuilding composites across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Corrosion, erosion and pitting shave metal off a surface until the remaining thickness hits a code trigger and the part is condemned. Weld build-up is the usual fallback, but it adds heat distortion and a heat-affected zone that can crack later. Either way the asset is out of service and a turnaround clock is running.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does general metal-loss rebuilding composites

Everything starts with an abrasive blast to a clean profile, because that is what makes the bond last. BHI Coatings rebuilds pitted and chemically wasted surfaces with cold-cure metal composites such as Belzona 1111 and 1311, then machines them back to the original tolerance. No arc, no torch, and nothing heat-affected left in the parent metal.

Typically applied with Belzona 1111, Belzona 1311, matched to the service conditions.

The result

Wasted surfaces return to original dimension and stay above code thickness. The existing part stays in the plant instead of being cut out and replaced with welded-in metal.
