The need for chute, hopper and transfer-point abrasion lining
BHI Coatings performs chute, hopper and transfer-point abrasion lining across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Every load of bulk material that slides through a chute, hopper, or silo, or across a mill liner, takes a little more steel with it. The wear runs ahead of any plate replacement cycle, so crews keep cutting and welding in fresh plate. Each changeout costs downtime, a hot-work permit, and another line on the maintenance budget.
How BHI Coatings does chute, hopper and transfer-point abrasion lining
We prep the worn surface and apply a cold-cure ceramic-filled lining sized to the particle and the flow angle, in the field or in our Alvin shop. The Belzona 1800 series matches the lining grade to whether the wear is fine sliding abrasion or coarse impact. No hot work, and the lining recoats inside the scheduled maintenance window.
Typically applied with Belzona 1811, Belzona 1321, Belzona 1812, matched to the service conditions.
The chute or hopper returns with a sacrificial wear face over it. Plate life stretches, and what used to be a weld-and-replace cycle becomes a quick recoat.
