The need for cyclone and separator erosion protection

BHI Coatings performs cyclone and separator erosion protection across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. The same spiral flow that makes a cyclone work is what wears it out. Particle-laden gas scours the cone walls and vortex finders, thinning the plate wherever the flow concentrates, and capture efficiency falls as the geometry distorts. Once metal loss reaches inspection limits, the vessel is looking at new plate or a full replacement.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does cyclone and separator erosion protection

Our crew blast-cleans the worn interior, then applies a cold-applied erosion-resistant ceramic coating that follows the cone and finder contours. Surface prep is matched to the substrate so the lining keys in and holds under the abrasive stream. The job runs in the field or in our shop during your outage, with no new plate welded in and no heat distortion to the shell.

The result

The cyclone goes back with an erosion-hardened interior and its separation efficiency recovered, and no plate-replacement weld cycle in the middle of it.
