The need for anti-cavitation and turbine coatings

BHI Coatings performs anti-cavitation and turbine coatings across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Cavitation is a hammer you cannot hear. Vapor bubbles form in low-pressure zones, then collapse against the metal and hammer it microscopically. Turbine runners, propellers, Kort nozzles, and stern tubes pit into a spongy, thinned surface over a campaign, and the damage keeps deepening until the component loses efficiency and heads for replacement.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does anti-cavitation and turbine coatings

We prepare the pitted surface, then line it cold with a resilient elastomer that flexes under each implosion and absorbs the energy instead of fracturing. The work fits the outage or dry-dock window you already have, in the field or in our climate-controlled Alvin shop. No welding and no heat into the casting, with a Belzona 2000 series elastomer where the service calls for it.

Typically applied with Belzona 2141, Belzona 1391T, matched to the service conditions.

The result

The runner or propeller goes back with a cavitation-resistant face. The unit keeps its original profile, and the costly rebuild stays off the schedule.
