Corrosion Protection

Splash-zone, immersed, and underwater corrosion protection

Tidal wetting, full immersion, and underwater exposure corrode marine and offshore steel faster than topside surfaces, attacking piles and risers.

The problem

The need for splash-zone, immersed, and underwater corrosion protection

BHI Coatings performs splash-zone, immersed, and underwater corrosion protection across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Nothing topside corrodes the way splash-zone and immersed steel does. Tidal wetting and constant salt water strip protection off piles, risers, caissons, and offshore members faster than any surface above the waterline. The substrate is almost never dry, so conventional coatings will not bond and the metal loss picks up speed, and dry-docking or de-watering a structure just to coat it is slow and expensive.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does splash-zone, immersed, and underwater corrosion protection

We apply surface-tolerant coatings straight onto wet, splash-zone, and underwater steel, with no drying of the substrate first. Divers and topside crews hand-apply the system to damp or submerged metal inside the outage or dry-dock window. The cold-cure chemistry displaces water at the surface and bonds where standard paints cannot.

The result

Marine and offshore structures hold their protection through the full immersion and tidal cycle. No steel replacement, and the asset stays on station without an extended outage.
