External pipework and tank corrosion protection
External corrosion attacks pipework, valves, fittings, and tank walls at supports, weld seams, and coating gaps until metal loss hits inspection limits.
The need for external pipework and tank corrosion protection
BHI Coatings performs external pipework and tank corrosion protection across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. External corrosion is never evenly spread. It gathers at pipe supports, girth welds, valve bodies, fittings, and tank walls, wherever moisture sits and the coating has broken down. Metal loss creeps toward the inspection limit until the line is pulled for replacement, and cutting out and re-welding corroded pipe means hot-work permits, a shutdown, and lost production.
How BHI Coatings does external pipework and tank corrosion protection
Our crew brings the steel to a sound profile by blast or hand tool, then applies a cold-cure protective coating across pipe runs, girth welds, valves, and tank shells. Where a sprayer cannot reach, contoured fittings and weld crowns are covered by hand. A surface-tolerant system such as Belzona 1391T or a 5811 barrier coat bonds to in-service steel without taking the line down.
Typically applied with Belzona 1391T, Belzona 5811, matched to the service conditions.
The line keeps running and the metal loss stops short of a code trigger. External surfaces pick up a fresh corrosion barrier, and the asset earns years of added service.
