The need for flange encapsulation and sealing
BHI Coatings performs flange encapsulation and sealing across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. The same atmospheric and process attack does two jobs at once. It corrodes the flange face until the gasket joint weeps, and it seizes the exposed bolting solid. A weeping flange wastes product, corrodes the steel around it, and warns you the joint may not reseal if you break it, and once the studs are seized the next disassembly stops being a routine gasket change and becomes a cut-and-replace job.
How BHI Coatings does flange encapsulation and sealing
We prepare the flange and the steel around it, then encapsulate the whole assembly in a cold-cure compound that seals the leaking joint and shields the bolting at the same time. It is done in place, with no hot work and no need to break the connection. The crew dresses the compound so the encapsulation protects the studs and still leaves the joint serviceable.
The leak stops, and the corrosion at the gasket face is held back with it. The assembly stays free for future disassembly, which makes the next outage a gasket change rather than a flange replacement.
