Leak Sealing

SF6 gas leak sealing

SF6 leaks at switchgear flanges and seals release an expensive insulating gas and degrade equipment reliability.

The problem

The need for SF6 gas leak sealing

BHI Coatings performs SF6 gas leak sealing across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. SF6 leaks at switchgear flanges and seals release an expensive insulating gas and slowly degrade the reliability of the gear. Each leaking joint costs twice, once as gas and once as a reportable loss of a high-impact gas. Taking the switchgear out of service and evacuating the SF6 to make the repair means an outage and a recharge the utility would rather not schedule.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does SF6 gas leak sealing

We seal the leak path cold with the gear still energized and in service. The crew preps the leaking flange or seal area, then applies a compound that closes the path without disturbing the equipment. No hot work, and nothing has to be vented to make the repair.

The result

The leak stops without evacuating the SF6 or scheduling an outage. The switchgear holds its insulating charge and never leaves service.
