Digester lining and repair

Kraft digesters carry hot sulfate-rich liquor that thins linings and corrodes every weld and access port over a single campaign.

The problem

The need for digester lining and repair

BHI Coatings performs digester lining and repair across Alvin and the Texas Gulf Coast. Kraft digesters run hot sulfate-rich liquor that grinds down conventional linings and corrodes every weld and access port. One campaign can thin the shell enough to put the next run in question. When the liner finally fails, the mill is choosing between an extended outage and a welded liner replacement, and both of them stop production.

Our method

How BHI Coatings does digester lining and repair

Our crew prepares the interior and applies a ceramic-filled high-temperature immersion lining built for hot chemical service, supported by the Belzona 1391T system. Where acid attack is what drives the failure, a chemical-resistant overlay matched to the liquor goes on top. The repair cures cold, which takes the liner-replacement weld cycle and any hot work in a confined vessel off the table.

Typically applied with Belzona 1391T, Belzona 4341, matched to the service conditions.

The result

The digester goes back to campaign under a fresh immersion barrier covering shell and welds, and the cost and downtime of a welded liner swap never land.
